child medicare  Medicare Child Dental Benefits Schedule (CDBS) to continue into 2017

Putney Dental Surgery  has available appointments for you now to use your medicare entitlement before 30 December 2016

We are now bulk billing Medicare for children.

$1,000 available for dental treatments every two years for children ages 2-17 eligible for the new Child Dental Benefits Scheme. The scheme includes fee coverage for fillings, hygiene, fissure sealants, dental exams, root canals, radiographs and extractions. The allowance is capped at $1000 per child in a 2 year period. It is also means tested, so you will need to contact Medicare on 132 011 to confirm if your child is eligible. The services have to be provided in a general practice setting, not in the hospital to count towards the scheme.

Why is visiting the dentist so important?
Regular 6 monthly  dental assessments play a vital role in preventative care. A simple “check up” provides the dentist an opportunity to carefully examine your child’s mouth, teeth and gums; looking for signs of tooth decay, gum disease, loose or broken teeth, damaged fillings and more. Detecting problems in their early stages can prevent them from escalating into more serious complications in future that may be irreparable or require complex treatment to restore oral hygiene. This is often time-consuming, costly and could have been avoided with frequent dental assessments if the existing problem was identified and treated early.

Dental assessments also combine preventative education and professional cleans to ensure hard to reach plaque is removed. Your child’s dentist is happy to demonstrate correct at-home brushing and flossing techniques to help your child maximise great dental habits for maintaining life long teeth.
